Getting Curious…

“Somewhere beyond right and wrong, there’s a garden. I will meet you there” Rumi

In loving memory of CH RIP 💔🖤💔

What’s one of the best pieces of advice you have ever been given?

Mine was to find my Ikigai when I was in the process of redefining my path and kept experimenting with new business ideas.

For years, I had a deep-rooted belief that all I could do for work was the profession I was trained to do.  I had invested 25 years of my life in it after-all.

So I decided to become an explorer during which time I met a lot of people from different backgrounds.  I became a curious student again and asked lots of good questions.  I listened to the stories of many business owners at different stages of their journey.  Some were start ups, and others seasoned entrepreneurs.  Every single one had a viewpoint and a perspective worth listening to.

The new insights led to the doors of wonder being opened up in my mind where my logical left brain had dominated my outcomes up until that point.   It was time to allow the creative right brain to get a turn in determining my future path.   It was time to think differently.

I started to question my current limiting beliefs.  It was like putting new colour shades on which changed the way the world appeared!  I wondered what any of those people would do if they were in my shoes?

I compiled a list of strengths and the traits others valued in me.  The activities I enjoyed taking part in.  I wrote a list of tasks that motivated me.  To take an audit of the things I would gladly do all day every day even if I wasn’t being paid was a useful first step for sure.

I was determined to find something that made my heart sing.  And that’s what I now inspire and help my clients to achieve.

I present them with three questions to open the doors of wonder:

  • What would you do if you had all the time, money and resources in the world?
  • How would you choose to live if you knew you had a few months to live?
  • Who could you approach to seek different perspectives from?

I lost a dear friend yesterday.  She championed me to the end and was an inspiration.  She made everyday count because she knew the end was near.  What would you do differently if you knew the end was near?

Let’s remember.  You only get one life.  Why not live it on your terms.  How can you  get the life you wish for?

The Super Power of Human Connections

It’s under a week till The London Business Show opens its doors to inspirational speakers, hopeful exhibitors, and wondering adventurers.  And I for one, cannot wait for another fabulous two days of touching base with existing connections and making new ones.

This forum was amongst the first, when I started my Personal Revolution journey some four years ago.  I had reached a stage in life where I needed more out of work and life.  But I didn’t even know how to go about getting it.

That’s when I became an adventurer.  On first entry to the exhibition hall, I felt a huge sense of overwhelm.  I was supposed to meet my friend there, but she had an emergency come up and couldn’t make it.  So I took a deep breath and I walked in with a big smile.

I was amazed at how easy it was to engage with the exhibitors and the speakers.  Most of them were happy to offer information and guidance when I asked for it.  Some of those individuals went on to become much valued mentors.  They are still my go to people when I need guidance and support.

I couldn’t believe the kind of conversations I ended up having with co-explorers who returned my smile with a smile and shared their story over coffee and lunch.  Some of those became friends and accountability buddies.

And that in essence is the power of networking in a positive forum; where we can invest in our personal development, building our valuable network.  And of course remember the utterly sweet power of serendipity, not to mention credibility by association.  How knowing one influential person can lead you to having some of your biggest champions and mentors in turn.

I’ve had the pleasure of being engulfed in a kind of support which money can’t buy by some phenomenal entrepreneurs.  All because I plucked up the courage to enter an arena that was alien to me.  I was willing to become a student all over again and learn from some of the best.  I stepped well and truly outside my comfort zone when I entered that arena.  Today, I reap the rewards of the discomfort I felt at the time.

In light of all the love and support I’ve received unconditionally, I’d love to give back and share the love.  If you are looking to start your own journey of personal revolution and are going to the business show, send me a PM and we’ll catch up over a cuppa.

I’m happy to see how I can help you, or connect you with someone who can.  If you’re not going to the business show, let’s organise a video call and see how I can support you.  Please feel free to like, share and comment if you think your network would benefit from this post.  Send me a private message if I can be of any service to you.

Love and strong coffee
